  UK government reacts as #EndSARS campaign heightens The United Kingdom through her High Commissioner, has asked the Nigerian government to respect the rights of protesting citizens during #EndSARS protests across the country. British high commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, made this remark yesterday, October 11, on micro blogging app, Twitter. The High Commissioner who commended the federal government’s  decision to disband the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) , stated that the IGP’s commitment to ensure accountability for human rights violations is essential to restoring public confidence. She asked the federal government to respect the rights of protesters while also urging them to remain peaceful during the protests.   IGP announces new squad “S.W.A.T” to replace “SARS” (Read Full) SWAT will fill the gaps arising from the dissolution of SARS who tackled violent crimes. The Nigeria Police Force has announced the creation of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit to replace the recently-dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). SARS was dissolved days ago following nationwide protests against the extra-judicial activities of the group that have escalated over the past few years. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, said in a statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 that SWAT will fill the gaps left by SARS whose main role was tackling violent crimes especially armed robbery and kidnapping.
